Final Reflection

Writer’s Studio has been one of my favorite classes this semester. I enjoyed all of the projects. I enjoyed exploring different mediums to show off my writing. I’d never heard of a broadside before this class. I really enjoyed making it, and learning about them. I also knew nothing about artist books before this class, and they quickly became my favorite projects.

I feel like I grew a lot in areas of “unconventional” writing. I’m used to writing in very traditional forms like scripts or essays or poems. This semester helped me grow as a writing by allowing me to explore different ways of showing off my work.

This class probably had the best transition online. The mix of a check in and a zoom call was nice, because it provided structure while still allowing some flexibility where needed. I would’ve still preferred an in person class, but under the circumstances I liked the way that this online course was set up the best.

Final Project Update

I’m doing pretty good with my artist book. I have the book bound, and all of the pages are at least sketched out and lined in pen. I’m currently adding color to all of the pages. I have two pages completely colored. I have ten pages that have a good chunk of the color done, and then I have two pages that don’t have any color yet. After the color is done, all I need to do is add in the words which I’m going to do by printing them out and glueing them onto the pages.

Final Project Proposal

I really enjoyed doing my artist book, so I definitely want to do something with that. What I want to do is make another artist book on a myth. I’ve been looking in Greek myths and I’m deciding between the myth of Eros and Psyche and Pandora’s box.

I want to do this book with a mixed medium drawing/painting rather than just using paint. I also want to find a way to bind this better. rather than just using a hole puncher and a piece of ribbon. I’ve found a couple of videos on different ways to make your own little books, so I’m going to follow one of those.

Artist Book Progress

So I’ve finished painting all of my pages, and I have all the words that will go on the pages written. I still need to add the words, scan the pages, and bind the book. I would like some feedback on how I should put the words on the pages. Below are two of the pages. I’m debating between putting the words on by scanning the pages and then putting the words on. I’m worried that with that the words won’t look as cohesive with the style of the painting. Also, then to have a physical copy with words I’d have to print out the pages again, and I don’t know if I want to do that. The other option is to hand write the words onto the page. I feel like that will go well with the style of drawing, but I’m just afraid of messing something up.

Podcast/Artist Book Ideas

My first idea is to do an artist book about a creation myth that I wrote in high school. The creation myth is about how volcanoes came to exist. I would want to do this by drawing the pictures by hand and then scanning the pictures so I can use my computer to put the text in. (I’ve got bad handwriting so the computer is the best way for it to be legible.)

My second idea is the do a podcast for a classic children’s book. I’m not sure which one, but I think it would be fun to do. I’d have to find a book and make it into a script for the podcast. I’d also try to do different voices for the different characters.
